What is Refilling Printer Cartridges?

With most popular laser printers, when the cartridge becomes empty you can buy a bottle of toner to refill it with. There are kits available for both Mono and Colour Laser printers. These kits include a matched toner and instructions for refilling. Some Cartridges need to have a hole made in order to pour the toner into the empty cartridge. It is recommended NOT to drill the hole as the small bits of plastic may fall into the toner reservoir. A special soldering iron may be purchased. The hot ring at the end of this tool is around the size of a 5c piece. Large enough to pour toner using a nozzle.

Inkjet Cartridges can be refilled by injecting ink into the empty cartridge. It is advisable to not wait till the cartridge is completely empty but to refill the cartridge while there is still some ink in the cartridge. Some Cartridges have chips which tell the amount of ink remaining in the cartridge.

When refilling these Cartridges the instructions which should come with the refill kit will detail how to bypass the chip or you may find a resetter on the Internet which will reset the chip back to full again. This is the cheapest method of running your printer and when done properly it works very well. Universal ink refill kits are available but please be careful when refilling later Canon models which need a much thinner ink so the 2 picolitre ink delivery system does not get blocked.

Hardcopy Presentation Printing - Dos and Don'ts

Hardcopy presentation can be very hard work. The sheer number of possible glitches is enough to drive anyone to distraction. The only way to deal with these issues is to create a reliable hardcopy format that eliminates mistakes at the setup stage, and without the last minute panics. The added element is good quality, reliable printer Cartridges, laser toner, and supplier support.

Setting up your hardcopy- the single stream approach

"The simpler the better" is the golden "do" here. Don't use multiple formats. The last thing you need is print problems, when doing an important presentation. This can get tricky when doing reports, or presentations where there are multiple sources and types of data involved. printers often advertise "Variable Data" printing services, so you can see it's no minor issue, even for professionals.

A "single stream approach" is using one format for all your presentation work. This is easier, because you're working off integrated software and hardware, not multiple formats.

For example:

Although most software is OK for Windows, putting images and data sources together can be a real "don't", and the print quality can be variable. The solution: Use PowerPoint, a familiar Windows standard, as the image source, which automatically formats the images.

Note: This will also give you a layout and let you work with the presentation element composition.

Checking for errors

The good news is that your print setup will also find any problems before they happen.

There are two basic processes in checking for errors:

Proofing: This is a full quality check, proofreading and image checking for quality before a print run. Make absolutely sure you do this, because it can be expensive to fix any errors, if you don't.

Print testing: Do a full source quality check on a basic print test. This allows you to identify any hard copy issues at once. The print test includes a full printer test, heads and nozzles, and a preliminary test print to find any issues.

The preliminary print test will save you time and money in just a few minutes. Some basic printers are simply not designed for highly advanced, detailed prints and high volumes of copies. If so, your ink application will be out of synch. Adjust the settings on the Advanced tab, and you'll find out if the printer can do the job.

Important Do's:

Install new ink Cartridges for printers before a print run.
Check ink levels regularly.

Presentation values, defined

High value presentation is very high quality, like a prospectus or other important business document. If you're working with something complex, like a report or business white paper, the presentation must be top quality. Your print job needs to be immaculate, for presentation to business clients.

Success- Print matches presentation needs

The proof copy of your presentation is the benchmark. It will be perfect, with no text or image issues. The ink application will be 100% according to your source materials. Good presentations make good business.

How to Refill Epson Original Equipment (OEM) Ink Cartridges

Previously, it was unheard of to be able to refill original Epson ink Cartridges. With the recent Trade Commission ruling, restricting the import of many compatible and refillable ink Cartridges for Epson printers, new marketers have devised a way to easily refill Epson OEM ink cartridges.

You'll need the following tools, which are available through a couple online distributors...

Your empty original Epson ink cartridge
Two syringes, one with a special tip
Ink designed for as a direct replacement for Epson ink (cheap generic ink will clog)
Replacement ball plugs
Fill hole adapter - this converts your cartridge into a refillable cartridge!
Chip resetter

Before you think this is really complicated, it's not. It just seems like more until you see photos of how to do it.

Here are the basic steps:

There is an ink filling port on the bottom of the cartridge that was used by Epson for the original filling. This is covered with thin plastic if you've not previously refilled your cartridge.
Install the fill adapter by pushing it through the thin plastic covering the refilling port. This should be inserted so that it is flush with the bottom of the cartridge and not extending out. Very simple.
Push the filling syringe into the fill adapter. (This syringe should obviously contain the right ink)
Insert the waste syringe into the ink exit port.
Inject ink into the cartridge with the fill syringe.
Remove both syringes and fill the place a special made rubber ball into the fill port.
Use the proper chip resetter to reset the electronic chip on the cartridge to full.

The tools used to accomplish this are available online. This is the same basic process used by cartridge remanufacturers to refill original Epson ink cartridges. The quality of ink that you use is very important, not only for print quality, but also to ensure that the cartridge works properly. American made inks that are manufactured to precisely replicate the print performance of original Epson inks far exceed the quality of cheap generic inks.

Top Rated New Brother Printers Released in 2009

Brother printers, especially the multifunction ones, are known to be among the best in the market. Brother Industries has garnered not a few awards over the years for the excellence of their multifunction printers, and it does try to break new ground with the release of each model.

For the year 2009, what new ground has Brother Industries broken in their printer line? Here are just some of the few offerings that the company has for us.

1. Brother MFC-6490CW. The Brother MFC-6490CW is a behemoth of a printer, but this Brother printer nonetheless earns a mark in history for being the world's first multi-function A3 printer. With dimensions of 32.3 cm x 54.0 cm x 48.8 cm and weighing some 15-odd kilograms, you will think twice before you buy this for your home office, but it is definitely a good choice as a small office printer.

The print quality of this bulky Brother printer with Brother ink Cartridges is decent enough, with monochromes appearing smooth and seamless and color prints bright and shiny. The one drawback to this printer is that it takes its time churning out prints - 15 seconds per page for ordinary prints and a full 16 minutes for a full-colored and borderless A3 print.

Price: US$229.99

2. Brother HL-5370DWT. If you are looking for a heavy-duty laser printer for your home office, the Brother HL-5370DWT may be a choice you should look at. It is a Brother printer that is fully automated and easy to maintain. It also does not disappoint when it comes to connectivity because it has a wide range of connectivity options - wireless, Ethernet, USB and even the old-style parallel ones.

Performance-wise, the Brother HL-5370DWT prints very nice text documents as it should for a laser printer. The one flaw of this Brother printer is that it is rather slow at 26 pages per minute for text documents and 6 pages per minute for graphics.

Price: US$249.99

3. Brother MFC-689CDW. If you have a home-based business that requires you to work on some desktop printing projects with a wide format, the Brother MFC-689CDW may be the answer to your needs. This Brother printer is capable of printing tabloid-size documents at a reasonable quality.

The Brother MFC-689CDW, however, is not known for speed. It can only produce some six pages of text documents per minute and three pages of graphic prints per minute. It is also quite expensive to buy and to maintain.

Price: US$349.99

4. Brother MFC-490CW. The Brother MFC-490CW is a lot more stylish in appearance than many of the other Brother printers out in the market today. Brother Industries made an effort to make this multifunctional baby look good on top of a desk. It is also quite cheap compatible brother ink Cartridges, which makes it an affordable choice for home office usage. Print quality for both text documents and photographs are quite good.

Unfortunately, this Brother printer shares the major flaw that its cousins have: It is a slow mover. Printing speed for text documents is a dismal three pages per minute. As for photo prints, it can take as much as two minutes to come up with one.
